Bio

Brian Ernst is a Continuing Lecturer in the Writing Program at UCSB. He co-designed and regularly teaches Writing 105CD: Writing with Code, which heavily features video game design and non-linear storytelling through platforms like Twine or Ink.

Research

Dr. Ernst's research interests include how video games allow users to experience interactive narratives and reach a wide audience. He believes that the careful design of such narratives has a foundation in writing studies through the cultivation of purpose, audience, and context. Further, that video games not only tell stories, but can also be used to make persuasive arguments as well.
